a village involved in the French Resistance
Autoire is a commune in the Lot department, in the traditional province of Quercy. The village was once an important site for the French Resistance during the Second World War. Indeed, Autoire was a hub for the region’s resistance fighters and played a key role in helping the Allied forces liberate France from Nazi occupation. You can’t miss this visit during your week at Camping Autoire.
This village of the Resistance is now a pleasant place to stay, with its medieval houses and charming little streets. You can also take advantage of the many hiking trails in the area, or relax by the river.
Autoire also boasts the“Château d’Autoire“, named after the village in which it stands, although it is also known as the“Château des Anglais “….. Built in the 14th century, it features a square keep and four round towers. It is now in ruins, but it is still possible to see the remains of the moat and drawbridge.
Finally, the village boasts a natural waterfall in the heart of Autoire, formed by the erosion of limestone rock a few kilometers from the Autoire campsite. The waterfall is around 20 metres high and 10 metres wide. It is one of the region’s most popular tourist attractions.
